Step onto the pitch and play professional football your way in FIFA 09. Experience the most authentic football simulation EA Sports has delivered as you live the fantasy of playing as a professional player and customise the game to suit your style and ability.

Powered by the third generation of the EA Sports football engine, FIFA 09 features more than 250 core gameplay additions and enhancements that deliver the most responsive, intelligent and realistic action ever for the series. Enjoy turning defenders with more controlled dribbling and ball control, snapping off precision shots with improved first-time shooting mechanics and firing beautifully timed passes with greater accuracy, placing the ball exactly where you want it.

With new player momentum physics the speed and weight of the player determines everything from the distance of a slide tackle and the power of a header to the severity of player collisions and the height of a player's jump. Plus, players now behave according to their physical attributes with larger, stronger players dominating collisions, battles for control of the ball, and position in challenges for two player headers.

5 out of 5 stars Finally a PES beater!!   October 14, 2008

After reading other peoples opinions on here of fifa i thought id post mine in.
Ive been a long time admirer of pes from the very humble ps1 right up to last years 2008 edition, tending to sway away from the the yearly generic fifa's.
Well this yr it appears the developers behind fifa have got it right on the money so to speak in my opinion.
The feel of the game is just right, it plays like football, feels like football, sounds like football, i could go on.
For years an years ive hoped someday EA would pull thier finger out an realise where they were going wrong and boy though its took 15 long years to understand how to play football properley they really have created a gem of a game.
I wont bore you with all the features as many other reviewers have already pointes them out but i can totally agree with their opinions though admittedly i/m yet to try the manager mode.

All in all summing up, this years edition is outstanding, ok there are a few tiny little glitches in the change player method an little niggles with player animation sometimes but other than that it is flawless, besides surely they couldnt have made it completely perfect from top to bottom!!

Couldnt recommend it enough ( coming from a PES veteran! )

5 STARS!!

5 out of 5 stars On to you then, Konami.   October 4, 2008

Having received the game on release day I have been playing it rather relentlessly. I'll start off with a short summary; I like this game, alot. Not only does it enhance on what 08' couldn't, it also pushes the franchise forwards in terms of inginiuity and entertainment. There is so much to do in the game that I will probably forget a feature or two over the course of this review. Taking into account my overwhelming satisfaction, it is embarassing for me to confess that i didn't think this game would be as engrossing as it is and will be for another year.

With 08' I found the Be a Pro mode (which I will now refer to as 'BAP') to be a concept which oozed potential. I am happy to say that in 09' they have well and truely milked the preverbial cow of BAP. The BAP mode takes the form of 'seasons', 4 of them to be exact, where a chosen or created player plys his trade at any chosen club. At the beginning of BAP you will start off as an unnoticed player in the reserve team. After getting noticed, which could take some of the novices out there some time, you move on to bigger and better things so to speak. Performing well for your club will get you noticed internationaly, where you can become a national legend should you take the international stage by storm. Needless to say, this mode is very expansive and entertaining. I personally find this game mode fantastic. Because i support Arsenal (boo, hiss) I enjoy playing an integral part in centre midfield alongside Fabregas (boo, hiss). Playing on 'Professional' dificulty setting makes it very realistic in playing style and feel.

The inclusion of BAP seasons does not mean that the manager mode is neglected and banished into the corner like a smelly cat. Instead it is played in the exact same style as in 08', only with easier navigation and more realistic transfers etc. Happy faces all round. I haven't gotten all that immersed into manager mode yet, but I fully intend to once I have finished with BAP.

Online is, in a word, exceptional. In 08' I would scream naughty words in almost every match I played due to a defensive glitch or a player change problem. Fifa 09 rewards me back my sanity. I have played around 50 games and I am yet to encounter any glitches or player change problems. So to put it simply the only reason you should shout naughty words is because your getting a good old-fashioned romping. As well as player vs player matches there is also the inclusion of BAP with 10 vs 10 matches. I know, I know, the images of 10 players running after one ball with four or five 11 year olds all asking "who am I?" are running rife in your nuggin. Suffice to say that I am fortunate enough for this only to have happened once to me. Assemble yourself a good team and this mode will be a winner.

Having played the game for two days I cannot express how enjoyable I find this game. Shooting has become as realistic as ever, along with keepers gaining a few pixelated brain-cells. It is hard to think how the next edition can build on such a satisfyingly complete game.

I've never been a PES man myself and after this I won't be making the transition. Over to you, Konami.

5 out of 5 stars I have finally decided to ditch PES   April 20, 2009

First off I have always been a PES fan since the early days of International Superstar soccer and I have had each version since including PES 2009 , I have always stayed away from FIFA due to its non realistic games and rubbish passing, however I finally decided to try FIFA 09 and I am so glad I did and all I can say is bye bye PES.

FIFA has so much to offer, now I actually play in the proper Premiership with all the kits, the FA Cup, League Cup and qualifying for Europe are also here. No more Master Leagues for me with half the teams and players not even called their proper names!

The gameplay is top notch and it has borrowed from earlier PES versions, it makes you wanting to come back for more to score some amazing goals, the tricks the players can do need to be seen to be believed and they are not that difficult to pull off, online has no lag (take note Konami) this game just feels so much more polished than PES and has so much more to offer the football gamer, I can't rate this highly enough and I am so happy I decided to do what I would have thought impossible a few years ago and that is to switch from PES to FIFA, its a pity I persevered with PES from October 2008 as I could have been playing FIFA a lot longer.

It is a shame that PES seems to be going backwards whilst FIFA is moving forward, this is now without doubt the number one football game and miles ahead in terms of playability and value for money.

The fact you can upload your goals to the EA sports site for others to view is also an excellent idea.

5 out of 5 stars have it admit it beats pro evo   February 20, 2009

after being a pro evo player since the ps1 i found it difficult to take this big step. i spent weeks debating which to buy and after playing on both i finally decided to take the plunge and am I glad I did, absoultley no regrets!!

pro evo have been outclssed this year, the only thing they have going for them if the champions league rights. they havent stepped the gameplay up the last couple of years and now fifas is far superior. The only cons i have found so far is firstly there are no international competitions becuase EA are greedy and release a seperate title such as Euro 2008 and so the only way to play a world cup is to create one yourself. however this doesnt particuly bother me as manager mode and online is the bit for me. the corners are difficult, i think ive scored from oneso far but maybe i am jsut yet to master it. this is in comparrision to pro evo which the corners are far to easy. the penaltys are awsome, pro evo you push a direction and press shoot but on fifa you have to judge the power and how far over you direct the stick, much easier to miss, you can also do a cheeky little chip/dink down the centre...nice addition, but again cannot score them every time.

overall the realism and the weighting of every ball you play makes you feel more in control and is far more rewarding when you pull off that perfect cross or float a ball over the top for your stricker bury away.

If you are in 2 minds about which to buy or dont want to be unfaithfull to pro evo FORGET IT fifa wins hands down, BUY IT!

5 out of 5 stars Spectacular   December 31, 2008

Fifa 09 adds a whole new dimension to football games on the next generation consoles!! I am an Xbox 360 owner and I have had this game since release date. The Be a pro mode is simply amazing.... Ive gone from an un-noticed Cardiff City U-18 to a Liverpool regular. Manager Mode is also good but you have got to keep an eye on your players fitness levels, you need big squads for rotation and that!! I havent played PES 2009 so I cant compare them, but FIFA 09 is an excellent game and I will be playing it until 2010!!

Oh and at £22 now its a bargain!!
