Manufacturer's Description
Step onto the pitch and play professional football your way in FIFA 09. Experience the most authentic football simulation EA Sports has delivered as you live the fantasy of playing as a professional player and customise the game to suit your style and ability.

Powered by the third generation of the EA Sports football engine, FIFA 09 features more than 250 core gameplay additions and enhancements that deliver the most responsive, intelligent and realistic action ever for the series. Enjoy turning defenders with more controlled dribbling and ball control, snapping off precision shots with improved first-time shooting mechanics and firing beautifully timed passes with greater accuracy, placing the ball exactly where you want it.

With new player momentum physics the speed and weight of the player determines everything from the distance of a slide tackle and the power of a header to the severity of player collisions and the height of a player's jump. Plus, players now behave according to their physical attributes with larger, stronger players dominating collisions, battles for control of the ball, and position in challenges for two player headers.

5 out of 5 stars Great   October 5, 2008

Was pleasantly surprised with Fifa 09. To be honest I thought it would be a carbon copy of Fifa 08 with a few different shirts and players but, hey - I wasn't expecting an amazing game with much better graphics, gameplay, commentary and when players tackle they fall over in the most interesting and realistic ways! The cut scenes are much better and the referee is like a real one.
Carrick looks himself - it's spot on. The layout is very very different from before and it's much much better, changing lights that are soothing in the backdrop and a darker select menu.
The songs are good, I wouldn't say better than before but good nonetheless. The players arn't so bulky which is a definate plus point. There are more than 30 professional signature moves. Stepovers, flicky-things and awesome tricks are all added to the collection. It's generally much more authentic action and the stadiums look great.
Also be a pro for 4 seasons instead of one. The fan shop is great - buying new balls and 3rd kits is great. No, there is not any Online play, but as someone who never bothered to do this I don't care and now because of this lack of Online play, Fifa 09 takes up much less space on the memory card than the others.
I love this game and I am not buying a PS3 no matter what, why spend 500 quid on the console then 40 quid on every game, when you can have quality games on the good old PS2?
Answer me that without blabbing on about the better graphics.
So... LET'S FIFA 09!

3 out of 5 stars Enjoyable to play!   October 25, 2008

As always,Fifa 09 is very enjoyable.I was also pleased to see that EA SPORTS waited for the end of the Summer Transfer Window. The reason why I have marked this game down is because there are so many skills and features that they include on PS3 and Xbox 360.The first thing is you can't have control over the players goal celebration.I would really enjoy controlling my players delight. The second thing is that there are quite a few new skills that you can do for the PS3 and Xbox 360 and I would love to be able to trick defenders.Actually, there aren't any(apart from casual controls that I can't see the point in)new skills for the PS2 version. But overall I think that it is a fun game.

4 out of 5 stars Definately one worth getting   March 1, 2009

Really enjoyed this game, plenty of modes to play. Manager mode is really good as you get to bring players into the squad from youth academies, purchase players, build players stats, organise friendly matches, control ticket prices etc etc... and actually play football!! I got this game to be Exeter City FC as they only just got promoted this season. The only annoying thing I can think of is that you cannot choose your kit colour, and this makes things very very confusing e.g. when I play Exeter away games with a blue kit, its amazing just how many league 2 teams have blue home kits!! But overall its good, worth buying, and worthy of 4 stars :)

5 out of 5 stars fifa madness   February 10, 2009

Although I'm not a fifa fan the child who wanted this is and he raves about the improvements in fluidity and control. It's now getting much better in game play in relation to PES without losing any of the presentational quality that FIFA is renowned for. Don't underestimate how important it is to have a full player and team roster, which PES lacks as they don't have the player license for every team.

4 out of 5 stars What were you expecting?   December 8, 2008

I bought Fifa 09 for the pure fact that I had Fifa 07 and although I still enjoyed playing that, I quite fancied updated teams, players, graphics etc. So I'm not disappointed, it has all those. I wasn't expecting a giant leap forward in realism, nor something to rival the looks of the PS3 Fifa versions. Therefore if you're expecting some ground-breaking, new era type game, don't get your hopes up, as I think if you are really looking for that then you should look to getting a PS3 or Xbox or whatever.
This game is still enjoyable, with some good tricks still, which is really why everyone plays a one-star opposition, to show off their rainbow flicks right?
Fifa 09 is fun for a now-and-then player; if you want amazing hours-on-end fun then maybe look to a next generation console for your answer.

PS: Be A Pro mode, I think is average. As another reviewer states, you can't select a number for your player if it's already taken, so you have to be number 27 or something, and it can get a bit repetitive, not to mention harsh on the eyes when the screen widens to get all the action in. But it's ok - something a bit different to liven things up.
