There's a good variety of planes and helicopters, a stunning choice of airports and comprehensive teaching section. You can choose any weather condition, time of day/night and season, so if you want to put your flying skills to the test you can try to land in a gale force wind. I like the variety of views that are available. The scenery is mostly excellent although there are a few landmarks needing brushed up. This seems to be pretty much a total control program - it would be hard to think what needs to be added to it. Best of all it's easy to just take a leisurely flight anywhere you please if you don't want to tax your brain too much - and it doesn't take too much to get flying. For the realist fans you can make it as close to life as possible. I like the humourous comentaries in the lessons though. At one point (when I missed the runway by several hundred yards) I was told "well, at least you managed to land on airport property". It's not cheap, but it is top quality so is worth buying.

Anyone buying this game should be aware this isn't an arcade shooter, this is a genuine simulation with 100's of real world airports, accurate plane models and a full living world to fly through.
I've just upgraded my graphics card to an ati 4890 and can now fully appreciate this game. it's almost like flying over Google Earth, but looking down on the roads I can see cars and lorry's cruising up the motorway as I crash into my house!
If you like full on sims this is well worth the money, if you really enjoy it purchase a track ir head tracker too, this allows you look around the cockpit with your head, while you use the mouse and keyboard for just flying the plane, it's very cool.

I am very pleased with this product becuse of the range and the quality of what already comes with the package. I would recommend this product more than the other versions becuase it comes with the delux edition and the accelerate expansion pack with it. When the graphics are set on to high settings, the scenery, planes and weather all look fantastic. The extra missions you get with the acceleration pack are fun and challenging. There is a wide range of payware quality addons that are around for it but be careful because there are still alot of them around for FS2004 and check the compatability before you buy. Over all it is a fantastic package and I have enjoyed it.

My two grandsons and myself have had lots of enjoyment flying various aircraft around areas that we know. I was amazed at the quality of the product and marvel at the hours and technical knowledge of those computer programmers to made this Flight Simulator possible. What was not clear on the advert for the Gold Edition was the tremendous number of airfields and airports from all over the world that are catered for on this version. They even include small airfields near to where we live in Shropshire. I would recommend this Flight Simulator,which is very cheap when you consider all the work that has gone into it. I would also recommend that you buy a joystick to operate it which is much easier and lifelike than controlling aircraft by keyboard or mouse. Bob Mills.

Please note, this is not a game, although you can have a lot of fun with it !
Full world terrain to an excellent detail level...check.
Amazing graphics (even given it is several years old now)....check

Good variety of planes and helicopters with well modelled interiors/exteriors, virtual cockpits and flight models....check
HUGE amount of free stuff available on the internet (just look!)...check
HUGE amount of payware available to upgrade just about anything....check
Amazing training guides and fun missions to fly....check

Very highly spec'd PC required to play ? Hmmm....check !
Perhaps the major downside to this incredible piece of software is the fact you will need a monster PC. A lot of people complained when it came out because it ran so slowly on 'most' PCs...and they were bang on. My system is a new, fairly well spec'd Core I7/5770/4gb Ram machine that scores 7.5ish (out of 7.9) for just about everything in Windows experience on Win7. It runs Rise of Flight, Napoleon TW, Arma 2 etc smoothly at highest detail settings at 1920x1080. Even it struggled at times with FSX at full detail (eg over London in an F18!) and if you have anything moderately old or with a poor graphics card, you will have to accept lower resolutions or lower detail.
That said, if you can run it with full detail, it looks and flys great. I have around 3000hrs in real aircraft and it compares really well to the 'real' world flying experience...the addition of full ATC transmissions, the ability to file flight plans and to fly in just about anything...to just about anywhere...is incredible. The only minor downside I can find (apart from the beast of a PC required) is that at times it is too real and can become more like work than fun. Whilst I haven't tried the online options yet, they are well integrated into the overall experience and for example you could have a player operating as ATC at a major airport (with full radar/tower picture etc) and several players flying circuits/IFR etc.
I will finish by saying that for the money £18ish.....you are getting the absolute bargain of the century in PC software....you get so much for the money before you even go online and see what you can download for free (legitimately!). This is the ultimate sandbox, flying simulator, it's dirt cheap and awesome. Go buy.
