Brilliant Machine.. must have a different one to all the bad reviews... December 25, 2008 Reality Check (London, England & Atlanta, GA USA) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
Okay, so some of the other reviewers are slagging off the new PSP-3000 series... well assuming they actually have the console, they must have a different one to me seeing as:
1. Screen quality is mind blowing... graphics and vivid and crisp, better than the old ps2 graphics in many cases. Still haven't come across that interlacing 'issue'... beats ghosting any day
2. Sound quality is surprisingly good. Most portable products with their own speakers are usually quite poor. Of course headphones are better but then can be a tad antisocial and impractical at times.
3. As a portable gaming machine it is unmatched. Pure and simple. The ONLY thing the DS has over it is the price... and then to get the multimedia abilities of the PSP, you have to buy an R3 chip for the DS anyway... and then the graphics of the DS are still v basic.
4. In terms of build quality its surprisingly sturdy and ridiculously light. Slim enough to easily fit in a pocket. A case is advisable but smudges on the screen are surprisingly hard to notice.
In conclusion, awesome machine. Fifa 09's pretty good too (painful to say considering i'm a ProEvo fan...)
PSP 3000 - A jazzed-up future proofing October 19, 2008 Barry leslie (Peterborough) 62 out of 66 found this review helpful
I got a psp slim and light last christmas. I have found this to be an amazing handheld. I don't have the time and space to have an Xbox 360 or PS3, the PSP however can go anywhere and you can put the system onto stand by, ready to play later on. This is a great machine, it even plays movies (UMD discs and Digitally stored movie files)music and works as a photo/picture viewer. I love this machine.
When I found out that the PSP 3000 was coming out I was really excited about the brighter screen, anti-reflection and in-built microphone. Basically I spent an extra £20 getting this and yes, the screen works much better in brighter light, the colours are definitely sharper, the microphone works well (I made a skype call with it and my headphones in my ears)and the case is more resistant to finger prints.
To be honest these are features which should have originally been on the first machine. THESE ARE NOT GROUNDBRAKING! My slim and light was malfunctioning so I exchanged it for the psp 3000. If you already have a slim and light, think very carefully before buying this. You are not getting more bang for your buck! If you are deciding between this and the slim and light go for this, because you will have the machine that the first slim and light should have been.
PSP 300 a very worthy purchase if you do not already own a PSP December 6, 2008 Mr. Lee Shenton (Flintshire, Wales) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Ignore the boo boys who are probably X-box fanboys (they don't have a handheld console!), the PSP 3000 is a very smart piece of kit. If you want to go for ultra cutesy games, then the DS is for you. However if you want to go for a wide range of games (currently Championship Manager 2009 is eating up a lot of spare time!), interent connectively (surfing the web using wi-fi), storing your videos, photos and music (all top quality) then this is the handheld for you. The new screen shows amazing quality and glare resistance, and the UMD vidoes also play with excellent quality (the videos tend to use up the battery quicker though). I got the FIFA 09 game bundled in, but you can probably get two or three games with it if you shop around and get a good deal. The internet connectivity is also ingenious; I saved an episode of MOTD to my PS3 hard drive, and went to the local which had wi-fi. I was able to connect to my PS3 through the internet, and watched MOTD on my PSP! A fantastic device, people who criticise obviously do not fully utilise the PSP for all it can do. A very good buy for christmas!
A little perspective October 28, 2008 Sir Lagsalot (UK) 22 out of 24 found this review helpful
Let's get things clear here. This probably isn't worth buying if you already own a PSP slim and lite, fair enough. But if you don't yet own a PSP then you should definitely consider buying one. All the 1,2 and 3 star reviews are reflective of an unimpressive upgrade, and by no means represent the attributes of the system itself.
The PSP is a very cool little gaming device capable of PS2 quality visuals; it plays film and music media; it works as a camera (with the correct add-on), sat nav, has wireless internet access and can link to your PS3 while you are out and about via remote play. It is truly versatile.
It's not as user friendly as the DS and a second analogue stick would have been a worthwhile addition. If you are a casual gamer then perhaps Nintendo's machine is more for you as the games are more geared towards accessible input, but if you want to play Grand Theft Auto: Vice City on the train then this is the one.
I honestly don't see the problem January 14, 2009 The Family Guy (Northwich, England) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought the package with "Need for Speed" rather than FIFA, but as all the reviews are here, thought I would add mine too. I needed to buy a replacement PSP after my original PSP1000 stopped reading discs after 3 years of happy usage. I wondered whether to get the 2000 or the 3000 based on the other reviews and took the advice to google the interlacing business. I saw a useful you-tube video demonstrating the difference and a picture on a review elsewhere and came to the conclusion that the reported problem is only really visible if you hold the screen about 6 inches (15cm for the kids) from your eyes. My own experience would back this up. I've had it a month now and cannot say that I see a problem with it at all. I've got a TV cable to go with it to enable me to plug it into hotel TVs when I'm on business for UMDs and I've even played games on it through my TV. It's a clever piece of kit. Unfortunately it would appear that some people are missing the point of the machine and it is noticeable that the PSP areas in shops are getting smaller as time goes on. I was also a little disgusted that there was no memory card in the box, even though I didn't need one. I think it's particularly mean given the price of memory cards. It's still a better machine than the DS for the discerning gamer. (See my DS review for a balanced opinion)
