On a PSP - Outrageous! August 4, 2009 D. McClory (London) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
For a PSP game this is brilliant. It rivals God of War: Chains of Olympus for graphics and gameplay.
Being a huge fan of FPSs on consoles, I've long awaited a good shooter on the PSP. Having tried a number before, i'd almost given up on finding one that really impressed me. Some have come close, but have been let down by poor controls, poor graphics, or poor storyline. Socom came close, that was good, but the graphics let it down.
This however, blows Socom away. they've put some real effort into making this an excellent game that plays well, with impressive visual effects both in game and in cut scenes, while keeping the spirit of the excellent 'Resistance' IP alive. If you are fans of the Resistance storyline, and you are thinking about a PSP shooter, this is definitely the game for you. The lead character is entertaining and interesting as a bit of a dark character, with plenty of drama and history to him.
The game play system works really well, its a lot more automated than other PSP shooters i've played, auto-locking on to baddies makes it much easier to play with only one analogue nub. It can sometimes be frustrating, when it won't let you lock onto what you want it to, but it works very well, especially with the cover system.
Game is a good length, there is level after level, leaving you a little surprised at times at how much information they have squeezed onto a single UMD, especially at the quality. environments are varied as you fight across Europe.
Then to keep you going further, there's the link up with a PS3 with Resistance 2, allowing you to open new options and a new approach to missions, allowing you to get to places you couldn't in the normal game. I haven't tried using the Dual Shock PS3 controller with the game, but sounds promising.
All in all, one of the best PSP games on the market. A true revival in PSP is coming with some excellent games, but this one marks the start in this rebirth of a very powerful and capable little handheld console.

One of the best games on the PSP October 21, 2009 G. Heywood (United Kingdom) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The PSP is not known for having a huge number of games, but some of the games that it does have, are exceptional. This is one.
Resistance: Retribution (for those like myself who have not played any other games in the series) takes on the role of James Grayson, a British Marine who is fighting aliens in continental Europe. The aim is basically, to get into the centre of the infestation and basically wreck it (without giving too much away).
Along the way, you will shoot lots of aliens using a variety of weapons, and enjoy great scenery, atmospheric music, and cut-scenes laced with strangely suitable humour.
The controls are great (in my opinion, I am not a FPS (or TPS!!) expert), and there is little to knock this game for. Well apart from two things. Firstly, not enough variety in the monsters (although I guess this fits in well enough with the story), and secondly, the save points are a little far apart. Still, on a PSP with the ability to suspend, this isn't really a problem.
All in all, a great game and, like God of War, one that will definitely be played through again.
This game is awesome October 10, 2009 Kojones (Oxfordshire, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Enough said. Technically is a minter (sound, graphics, you name it), playability is very very good, it's long enough (I haven't finished it yet!), you will hardly be disappointed.
Resistance:Retribution.... BEST GAME EVER!!! September 5, 2009 Deep-Sleep 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Resistance: retribution is a fantastic game. Although it has few familiar faces from ResistanceFOM or 2 it still is a great worthwhile game and it is good for people who want an adventure, shooter game.
The campaign features various places from Rotterdam, Luxembourg an oddly named construction site, French catacombs and the tower. But i should tell you how it begins...
Russia closed its border in 1969 and since then a virus swarms russia and spreads in to eastern Europe.
In weeks millions are infected. Those who survive are no longer human... (spooky)
They transform into strange human/zombie like creatures, their only goal is to kill or infect all humans.
You are James Grayson, a man who lost his brother to the vile creatures and now lives only to kill all the chimera (name of the human/zombie like creatures) and now , on death row is given a strange proposition by a french militia named the Marquis to put purpose into his life.
Incredibly dangerous, fast-pased and slightly spine chilling, 5/5 any day
Resistance does it again!!!!! May 14, 2009 P. Foster (Kent, UK) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a brilliant shooter for the PSP the levels are very engaging but not to hard for you not to want to play (I'm having trouble putting it down) The controls are a bit wierd at first but soon become second nature and you will be fragging Hybrids in no time. The ability to go back and replay levels to increase your skillset is a great idea as you get all the weapons you've found further on inthe game to go back with you (avoids the give all cheat code need). The story line is good especially as I haven't played the full console versions (sorry only got Xbox 360's in our house) and it allows you to get immersed in the game in no time. I can't recomend it enough, if you only get one Shooter for your PSP make sure its this one. On your feet trooper, we got Hybrids to FRAG!!!!!Resistance: Retribution (PSP)
