Amazon.co.uk Review The new PSP Go system is a sleek and lightweight system at just 160g, around 43% smaller than the PSP 3000. the sophisticated and stylish design incorporates a sliding 3.8-inch display screen, delivering the same high resolution and vibrant visuals as the current PSP-3000 model. Leveraging PlayStation Network and digital content exclusively, PSP go system features 16GB of internal memory as well as expandable storage via Memory Stick Micro (M2) to store plenty of games, videos, photos, and music. The PSP go system is designed for the digital lifestyle, offering on-demand entertainment to consumers who want to download content directly to their device anytime, anywhere* over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. RemotePlay features also allow remote access to files on your internet connected PS3 via wireless internet when you're on the move.
Games include LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm Arctic Edge and Gran Turismo and many more available for download in the future. Expanding the PSP universe, PSPgo is the smallest, lightest PSP yet. Which means it's now even easier for you to play great games, listen to your favorite music, watch videos, view photos, surf the Internet and chat with friends on the move. Plus, with Bluetooth 2.0 technology now added to the mix, PSPgo also retains its critically acclaimed Wireless features including Ad Hoc Mode (direct PSP to PSP Wireless connection), Infrastructure Mode (PSP to Wireless local area network (WLAN) connection), Remote play (PSP to PS3 Wireless local area network connection) and Game Sharing, which allows you to share specific game features between two PSP systems. Never has there been so much power in your pocket.PSPgo has a brand new look that's perfect for slipping into your pocket when you're on the go. The system's stylish slide open design reveals the familiar PSP button layout and feature set - complete with analog stick and built-in microphone. PSPgo is now the ultimate portable PlayStation gaming system.

excellent but flawed PSP model May 22, 2010 M. Lee (Plymouth, england) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is a great purchase for an adult/mature gamer with money - it basically shrinks everything down for pure convenience, I for one am really happy with this little power house. I owned a PSP in the past but didn't own and UMDs so I decided that now was the time to start paying back.
CONS (and they are big ones)
NOW for the Warning - this model will not support UMD discs (So you can not buy second hand or reduced price games) this means that this is a poor purchase if your children get through a lot of games. If you are looking for a console for children who bore quickly get a 3000 as these are better value and do all the same things no features are really missing (except bluetooth) but they support UMDs and are slightly bigger. AS these play UMDS they will be able to play trade-ins and games can be swapped.
This will also mean that you are tied to the pricey costs of the PSN network where games can be purchased. There are sales but children won't wait for them.
Pros
You can have a big games collection in your pocket without the bulky UMDs, it is an excellent media player and games console, although web browsing is easier on the ipod.
It is very small and light and really tech sexy.
CONCLUSION
I recommend buying a PSP GO if you are financially able to support a more expensive option with limitations. Otherwise if you are a budget gamer or simply need flexibility in your buying options then buy the older models which are still in production.
I have to admit I bought mine for under £140 which is the upper level of what I was willing to pay.
PSP Go! isn't perfect, but it's a good buy October 12, 2009 C. Haddon (London, UK) 90 out of 102 found this review helpful
I used to own a PSP-1000, one of the original launch models. I upgraded to a PSP Go!, and I have already come to love my new PSP; more so than my old model. The PSP Go! isn't perfect, but it is actually a nice upgrade for the PSP line, although it isn't suited to everybody.
So, what are the benefits? The PSP Go! has by far the best screen on a PSP yet - compared side by side to a PSP-2000 the Go! is much clearer, sharper and with a much wider colour space/contrast. Quite simply, any old PSP looks washed out and faded in comparison - and Nintendo's DSi/Lite just doesn't compete. Yes, the screen is slightly smaller, but once you get to using the Go! you'll never notice the difference.
Linked into the smaller screen size is the overall size of the system - the old PSP models were long, bulky and impossible to put in a pocket. In fact, my old PSP rarely left the house at it was an awkward thing to carry without a bag. The Go! is only a small amount longer than an iPhone 3G, and actually fits in my pocket - making the PSP actually portable for the first time. The clever sliding mechanism accounts for most of this size saving, and thankfully the slider is solidly built and doesn't feel like it will fall apart any time soon. The controls are the same as the original PSP, and the new layout doesn't take long to get used to. The lighter weight (especially compared to the original PSP-1000) is a great help for long gaming sessions as it helps to alleviate the age old problem of hand cramp.
Anything else? 16GB of internal flash memory for a start - plenty for a stack of digital downloads, and you can always expand with an M2 memory stick. The Go! also adds a new Pause function for games, Bluetooth for connection to a variety of devices such as headsets and phones, and of course, not having to carry UMDs around.
If you have a large number of UMD games, the PSP Go! may not be for you. The Go! is aimed at people new to the PSP, or those who are willing to sacrifice their collection of UMD titles for convenience. If you already own a PSP, then it probably won't be high on your purchase list - and this is where all the vitriol from the "community" is coming from. Simply put, don't buy one if you don't want it. For me, the smaller size, higher quality screen, and the inbuilt memory makes the PSP Go! worthwhile. Your miles may vary, but the PSP Go! is a good product ultimately.
Does exactly what I need July 29, 2010 Shawade (UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I will not join the 'its not as good as a PSP3000' debate or repeat what I read in other reviews before I bought my PSP Go.
I am a frequent flyer and am usually flying somewhere every week. My old PSP1000 plus 5-6 games discs was always a bit of a challenge getting into my hand luggage.
I have now replaced it with a PSP Go, I am very pleased with it. Here is my take on it:
- The PSP Go is probably a little too small for my hands but you can adapt the position. It reminds me of the first backlit Gameboy Advance, not very ergonomic but you get used to it and your hands do not cramp up
- It is lighter to hold than the PSP1000 which makes a real difference after 2-3 hours of holding it
- The screen is noticeably smaller but you get used to it. It seems to be the same height as the old PSP's but no longer widescreen.
- I do not have to carry any games discs at all which means (a) less stuff in my bag (b) no chance to drop a disc whilst switching discs in mid-flight (c) no time spent deciding which game to slot in next (d) no irritating whirring noise from the UMD
- The 10 free games which now come with the Go (limited offer so check it still exists) has covered almost all the games I wanted to have anyway, so as they came free, I have pretty much replaced the best games from my UMD collection at no cost.
- Note that not all games that are on UMD are actually available to download. No SSX snowboarding for example.
- Build quality is very good although there are many more exposed screws than there were on the PSP1000-3000
- Battery life and speed to respond to commands is very good.
- Internet usage etc is slow and cumbersome. Modern iPhone/HTC smartphones have clearly overtaken handheld gaming devices in this respect. I do not use my Go for web surfing but if I did it would be irritating.
So overall, as an adult frequent traveller who wants a blast on Gran Tourismo, play around in GTA Vice City or get back to basics with Little Big Planet, I am a very happy PSP Go owner. You will usually find me sitting in seat 8C, headphones in, PSP Go in my hands and a big grin on my face. And I just know that the guy in the next seat struggling to control his newspaper wants to play on the Go instead.
Finally, a point on the 10 free game offer... you have to register on a quite complex system to qualify and then, in my case, it took a week for the download code to be emailed to me. I believe this is intentional by Sony. If someone buys a PSP Go and gets 10 games free that same day, they are not likely to buy any other games for their shiny new device. But if the promo code is not issued for a week or more, then maybe most people will spend more money & buy some games beforehand...
Cant put it down July 18, 2010 Karen Ferguson (Co meath, Ireland) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this psp go for my 8 year old son and he loves it. I set the console up for him using the Internet on the psp go. It was easy and straight forward. You download the games from the PlayStation store on to the psp go ,once you set up an account. So no games are left lying around the house to get broken or scratched . Anybody that buys a psp go from May - September can claim 10 free games , World cup south Africa, need for speed, big planet, avatar etc.
My son tells me its easy enough to use. The detail and graphics on the games are brilliant. My son loves this console and he never has it out of his hands.
