Fantastic piece of kit May 31, 2006 Mark Scott (London, UK) 62 out of 62 found this review helpful
This is the top of the range Tom Tom and I was very impressed. The satellite reception is great, it even download the Satellites positions for the next 24 hours for a quicker positioning.
The bluetooth connection is great although using it as hands free in the car requires the use of the remote microphone that is supplied as too much background noise is picked up without it.
You can download extra voices including John Cleese which helps with the boredom of driving long distances.
I am traveling to the states in June and I had it demo the route I will have to take from the airport to the rented house which gives me a real idea how complicated or in the case not the route will be.
You can also download a five day weather forecast of where you are traveling to and it will even read out todays weather whilst you are driving.
I was concerned when I purchased the 910 about the new mount, as other reviews had commented on how bad it was, I have had no problems with it, although I would like a version that did not have to stick to my windscreen ie a vent mount, especially with all the press about car thieft due to sucker marks on the windscreen.
Clever little box! August 30, 2006 Mr. J. E. Millar (London) 32 out of 32 found this review helpful
I've had this item for about a week now, and I have to say it's probably one of the best new gadgets I've had since Sky+ came out. You get everything in the box, which is a real bonus especially if you have plumped for this model over the cheaper tom tom one, which doesn't come with a wall charger or a carry case. Set-up was pretty straight forward, and I didnt need the manual until I accidentally set the map to the USA!
When I fit the bracket into my car I found that if I twisted the bracket really tight (it doesn't break!) then the unit was pretty secure and didnt move around at all. And as yet, I've not had any trouble with the unit disconnecting from the power.
On the navigation front, it hasn't got me lost once yet, and I've even thrown in a couple of wrong turns to see what it does, and it has a cool head and simply adjusts the way. You can search by postcode, address, point of interest, city, town, pretty much everything you could want.
But for me, the best thing about this is the bluetooth connectivity. I sync'd my phone to it expecting that I could use the Tom Tom as a speakerphone, and it not only downloaded my entire phonebook to the units memory to call from, but will also read out my text messages when people send them to me! It will also let you reply to texts using the tom tom too... genius!!
And on top of that, it has built-in speed camera warnings. I thought I would have to subscribe to this, but I didnt even have to connect it to my PC. So far it has missed one camera, but I guess that's why we have eyes too!
All in all this is a fantastic bit of kit. I haven't tried Tom Tom customer services and I haven't connected it to the web yet, so dont know what those aspects are like. But I'd definately recommend this to anyone who like me, spends a lot of time in the car. Five stars!
No Problems with "my" TomTom 910 - please read on August 31, 2006 Niknik (Mid-Wales) 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
I recently traded my Mercedes for a new one. My previous Mercedes had an integrated SatNav (via COMAND) which my wife and I missed. We researched (web, shops and friends) and then bought the 910 via Amazon. In comparison to the integrated SatNav the 910 is very impressive. We have waited a month before writing this review. It is accurate and quick. No windscreen fixation issues (my SLK has hard suspension so has been "tested") and no in car power supply issues even though it has been plugged in for many hours. The blue tooth connection works well but recommend the use of the external mike. No issues with talking books, MP3 and/or slide show features as these perform well. Maps appear to be accurate even though from Teleatlas (Mercedes system also uses Teleatlas). A very good package for the price.
You should be a computer literate to have a TomTom 910 July 1, 2007 Mr. Erkut Uygun (Cambridge, UK) 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
As others have already been stated using TomTom Home and downloading the latest release of the SW is a very bad move. You need to backup all the content of the TomTom, format it and reload the backup. This is a portion
from Tomtom helpline;
************
After the backup copy is finished, FORMAT your TomTom's memory card :
1. Enter the "My Computer" window on your computer and locate the icon for your TomTom.
2. Right click the TomTom's icon and then click "Format"
3. When the format wizard window appears click "Start" inside of the format wizard window.
4. A warning message will appear; Click "OK" to begin formatting (it is safe to format as long as the complete backup has been created first).
After the TomTom is formatted, open the TomTom HOME program on your computer to install the update :
If you do not have TomTom HOME on your PC please go to the following webaddress to download the latest version (free)

Maps are mainly out of date, even the bypasses older than one year are not in the map.
Good piece of hardware, but software is apperently not.
don't leave home without it May 10, 2007 J. K. Agbenyega (England UK) 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
I bought the TOMTOM 910 after many months of review of what is currently available, and opted for TOMTOM as it was the most established in the field and generally has a trusted name. I have not been disappointed.
I have road tested the kit in the UK and US and it has been a life saver. Like all electronic gadgets you need to exercise some common sense in its operation and expect it to do only what you ask it to and no more, but with these caveats safely on board you will not be disappointed.
In the US it may take some time to find the satallites, so boot up as early as you can is my only advice, but once online it was great, almost like being home from home. I travelled through San Francisco, Yosemite, and then Chicago, and no problems at all.
I have also upgraded my mount to the FM Transmitter version so I can play my ipod through the car radio, and this works perfectly also.
The traffic system is good, and real time data can be streamed in to your device through your bluetooth phone.
docking with my home computer works fine, so upgrades, etc, published by TOMTOM can be installed on the 910 easily.
All in all an amazing piece of kit, and given my experience with the device would recommend it to anyone.
