5 out of 5 stars Very pleased   March 29, 2009

Firstly I would like to describe how I am using this product. I dock my 2nd generation iPod touch into it, and I have the Official Apple Composite Cable plugged into the back. This then runs to my AV splitter, sending the audio to my HiFi and the video to my TV, as well as having the USB plug going into a USB Power Adapter on the wall. It just makes life so easily - just stick your iPod in, turn on your HiFi to listen to music (whilst it charges your iPod) or turn your TV and HiFi on and enjoy a cinema experience for your movies.

The latest version of this item comes with 8 dock adapters - numbers 9-17 in case you're interested. Solid construction as you would expect and the surface which is made of rubber means the dock will stay wherever it is placed. Compared to the previous version, the remote receiver on the front has been scaled down dramatically and is now just a horizontal oval slit. The iPod shuffle like remote works well from across the room. Just note that the Menu button doesn't work with the iPod (not that I needed that anyway.)

Although I don't use it for this purpose, the dock can also sync with your computer. Oh, and in case any of you were wondering, it outputs audio either via the dock connector or Line out 3.5mm jack without USB power.

5 out of 5 stars The perfect accompanyment to the Apple Component AV-Cable   August 1, 2008

I recently purchased myself a set of official Apple Component AV-Cable leads so I could store and watch videos on my iPod for when I went on holiday or stayed at a hotel ect.

I have owned my iPod Component AV-Cables for a few weeks now and would have to recommend them hands down to absolutely anyone who is looking for a perfect solution to watching movies on the go. The picture quality is great on dvd's converted from disc so long as you have decent software and most movies take up no more than 1gb (2gb max) The only thing which is a bit of pain in the butt is having to use the iPod to use functions such as fast forward, rewind play ect because the AV-Cable isn't ideally as long as it could be, also the controls for fast forward and rewind can be fiddly on the iPod and if you accidently press too hard, it goes right back to the start of the film which is extremely anoying.

After looking on Apple's website, it was relief to find that Apple actually made a docking station which comes complete with a quite cool little remote.

Basically the Apple Universal Dock is a docking station which you can place any iPod model into whilst charging, transfaring files and watching videos with your iPod.

The unit has a connector input at the back of the unit which you can slot your USB, Component or Composite AV-Cable into.

Personally I ordered this product mainly for the purpose of being able to control video play of movies on my iPod via the remote, but it can also be use for listing to music whilst connected to your stereo, interacting with Apple TV and much more.

I would definitely recommend this little unit if you can find it cheap enough, I picked mine up from a Amazon Market Seller for just £15 which is a bargian

4 out of 5 stars Works   March 16, 2010

does what is says, I ended up blue tacking it to the worktop as there is no fixings for it so you have to hold the base while you pull your phone out - instead of snatching it on the way past!

3 out of 5 stars iPod universal dock   December 26, 2009
Rev. Norman E. Vivian (UK)
I was bought this for Christmas and, on Christmas Day I eagerly unpacked it, put in the correct adaptor, wired it up and, so I thought, all was ok. But...the first problem came to light when I tried to change to a new album. I pressed 'menu' to select an album but it had no effect whatsoever! Right, thought I, I'll use the fast forward button which allows you to change tracks - well the music didn't fast forward to the next piece, but our LG television (to which the Dock has never been connected or paired) sprang to life!

Re-pair with the dock and try again - same result: Menu button does not work and pairing does not work. Either the goods are faulty or, as another post here says, Apple have grossly mis-led us about this matter. When you go to Apple support and it asks for the Serial No. it doesn't recognize the Remote's number! Back to square one - buyer beware on this product!
