Brilliant little camera with easy-to-use functionality October 21, 2008 Dr. O. Discombe (Milton Keynes) 193 out of 194 found this review helpful
I bought this camera from Amazon in October 2008, which came with a free case that made the whole package very good value. I am no photo professional, so this camera is perfect for a layperson like myself who just wants to point and shoot! Delivers nice pictures; actually 10 megapixel gives lots of unwanted (!) details on your skin, too.. I am glad I didn't go for the 12 megapixel option, which would be too much for the leisure user (each photo becomes too large in size too, using up your SD card space quickly). Overall, this is an impressively small camera that does everthing it's supposed to do quite nicely. The functionalities are straightforward and easy to use as well.
Excellent camera February 4, 2009 Ian Norris (UK) 58 out of 58 found this review helpful
This camera is excellent. It is very small and compact but packs a real punch. The image quality is very good (if you don't compare it to a Digital SLR) and it also has pretty good video quality too.
Features worth mentioning are that it also allows you to record video clips for as long as your memory card (and battery) will allow. It also has a funky time lapse video record mode that allows you to record over a long period of time and have a short video clip at the end of it. Very fun to play with.
The image stability makes a noticable difference to image quality, especially in lower light conditions so definitely get a camera with it on if you can.
The battery life I would consider 'very good' but not excellent. It did run out on me when recording a two hour long time lapse clip, but it had been used a bit before that too. To conserve power it turns the screen off when using this feature so they have clearly thought it through.
This is a very competent camera with a lot of positive features and I can't really say anything bad about it.
best option April 29, 2009 N. Tobin 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
I bought one of these a couple of years ago and it is brilliant; the best camera of its type I have seen. The anti-shake feature is fantastic. I paid much more than current prices and still think it was great value. I take photos for professional brochures and prefer it to my SLR.
canon IXUS 85 IS Compact Camera February 6, 2009 J. Barber (UK) 34 out of 35 found this review helpful
A brilliant camera packed full of features. A shame that the hand book does not detail all the feature for handy reference. However features are fully explained on CD. Was not worth getting the old camera repaired for the price of this one. Would highly recommend this product.
Idiot's guide wanted May 11, 2009 Ms. F. Broughton (Hertfordshire UK) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
This is the first Digital Camera I have owned and I have been delighted by this light, compact, easy to use model. I am decidedly not technical so I will leave that alone and just comment that I was able to charge up the battery, install it after the required 2 hour charge-up, and take good (in my book) pictures right away, after brief reference to the Start-up Guide. More advanced information is provided on CD but I haven't got to that yet.
Two minor points: I could find no mention of the Zoom facility in the Start-up Guide and thought I'd made a big mistake in my purchase - until a more knowledgeable friend came along and showed me where it was (on the top, with the button you press to take a picture). So Canon, please add this for information for idiot's like me! Secondly, watch out about battery use - it seems the lens operation takes up a lot of power, as does the automatic flash. When out for the day, using the camera a lot, in varying light, my battery ran out before the day did. So perhaps it would be a good idea to get, and carry, a second charged up battery. Must look for one!
Overall though, I wouldn't let those points put you off, as it is really easy to use, also to download to a pc - either with the Canon software provided or with other software.
