Great size, amazing sound - generally a great buy! October 5, 2008 Ms. J. C. Smith (London, UK) 175 out of 177 found this review helpful
I'd be dallying for a while about buying this or the Intempo DAB iPod dock and I am so glad I bought this one. It has great sound for such a relatively small system (I am sure the neighbours agree). I have literally just plugged in my iPod and it plays. The remote is great too - I can control the wheel with it which is great for being lazy! The DAB functionality is great too - I have already saved my favourite channels in the system.
Very easy to use, looks great, sounds amazing - no regrets (only that I didn't buy it sooner!).
Cracking little unit August 28, 2008 A. P. Clutton (UK) 134 out of 136 found this review helpful
I bought this system to replace a similar one by an inferior make (iSymphony) and it's exactly what I wanted. It has great sound, although I'm not using the speakers that came with it, it's connected through my AV system. Unlike the previous system I had there is no audible buzzing noise when the power is turned on which is why I needed a new unit. The CD turntable is silent which is another bonus.
As for the DAB aerial issue (see other reviews) I found the supplied length of wire gave me perfect reception for 5Live, Planet Rock etc by just running it straight up the wall in some trunking.
If you have an iPod and are looking for a unit to dock it into in order to play tracks and charge the player at the same time you will be more than happy with this system - and it's a good price too! I found the remote is easy to use as the controls for using the iPod are exactly the same as on the player, it's just a wheel system with a button in the middle.
Simple, stylish and not expensive. Got to be a winner!
Good Looking System August 22, 2008 Flyingscot (Scotland) 110 out of 112 found this review helpful
This is a good micro hi-fi system for some-one who is looking for a decent looking system with good features. I particular wanted a small hi-fi as I didn't have a lot of space, but wanted the features- most radio bands, CD, ipod dock, and small good speakers.
AM frequency was important to get all the different football commentaries as Radio Scotland can have different games on DAB, FM and AM! I actually found AM quite hard to get on any system- but this had it and that swung me as well as how well it would fit in with the other electrical equipment I have.
The reception quality was good in FM, AM and DAB using only provided aerials and I see no need to connect it too my outside aerial.
Sound quality is good though, I would like a deeper sound with more bass and the system doesn't let you fiddle with the sound output types much at all.
One quibble I have is the remote is a bit button crazy and is counter intuitive for some functions at first compared to other remotes, but it works fine when you get to know it!
Good looks, good sound, and great features. Sony does well again.
NICE PACKAGE!!! December 30, 2008 Jason Thorne (England / Oxford) 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
First of all I would like to say Amazon Del service is top draw I ordered this unit on Monday afternoon at about 2.30pm it was on my doormat on Tuesday morning at 10.00am with the courier. Going back to the unit this is a brillant piece of kit from Sony. It has all the bell and whistles on it to keep most people happy as for the sound quality very good. The setting up is very easy and straight forward including the ipod docking part. Overall a very small neat and tidy unit that will do the job for the average user and more importantly it's easy to operate and comes with a remote. You can more than likely buy cheaper versions of this docking system but what you got to remember this is Sony they been around a while now and they know what there doing when it comes to this and it's not alot of money for what you get. I will add my unit does not pick up one Dab Station which was a little disappointing I might be in a poor reception area or it could be the silly little antenna they supply. At first I was angry but if I am honest I never really listen to the radio so it isn't a great problem. It picks up FM stero stations and local stations no problem but don't let this put you off.
Excellent little HiFi! January 2, 2009 Art (Southampton, UK) 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
I've bought this for the bedroom and it is ideal for this. I wouldn't use it as a replacement for a real HiFi (in my living room I have the proper HiFi which is a pair of ageing but lovely Mission speakers, a Marantz KI Signature amplifier and CD player) but perhaps with better speakers who knows?
The speakers I would say are the greatest limitation to this little Sony system but despite that it still gives a rich lush sound. The convenience of charging and playing tunes from your iPod is superb (I'm using an iPod Touch with my Sony). The remote allows you to navigate the iPod menus easily. It comes with adaptors to suit all the models of iPod I've ever heard of.
DAB is something I rarely bother with and my experiences with other DAB radios has been that the reception in my area is poor (I live in a relatively urban area too!). Plus, why should I listen to Radio 4 in low bitrate mono which drops out without warning when I have perfectly crystal clear FM stereo reception available. The FM reception is fine with the provided aerial and the method for setting up to 20 preset stations is straight forward and easy.
It plays CDs very well, the sound quality being far in excess of what the budget nature of the small speakers would lead you to believe is possible.
The unit has fan at the back, which when I noted this during unboxing gave me some apprehension (I'm using the stereo in a quiet bedroom prior to sleeping using the SLEEP function) but there was no need to worry. I've yet to hear the fan at all and I suspect that it only kicks in when the unit gets very warm.
All in all an utter bargain for the approximately £105 I paid for mine.
