Excellent entertainment January 4, 2009 L. J. Walker (Scotland) 48 out of 48 found this review helpful
Before buying we read reviews of the similar model (DV 11) and also those of other (more expensive) projectors, also with built in DVD players.
I contacted Optoma to ask what differences there were between the DVD100 & the DV11, they got back promptly to say the projectors were the same apart from the colour of the casing.
We decided to buy the DVD100 and have not been disappointed in any respect. The unit is quite compact and the picture & sound quality are excellent. The projector is easy to use, comes with a very good instruction manual and a really neat, well made, padded bag to carry it in.
We experimented with playing the sound through the hifi speakers but decided there wasn't much advantage as rhe sound quality from the projector itself is very good, a nice big sound.
We are using an Optoma pull up screen and are thoroughly enjoying watching all our DVD films on an 80inch screen.
We haven't had a television for 15 years now, but it's been really nice to be able to sit & enjoy films we want to watch using such a neat unit that combines projector, DVD player & good audio. It's been a great buy and one we'd recommend.
From lounge to Cinema in one easy lesson! February 4, 2009 Mr. G. CARTWRIGHT (Alnwick, Northumberland) 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
I was very pleased with the ease of use of this projector and the quality the images it produces.
It really did give me the feel of being in a Cinema watching some of my favourite films and comedy series. Even when projected onto a light wall which is not actually white did not detract from the quality of the pictures.
From a low level platform the image is thrown well up onto the wall so no precarious balancing on higher levels. Altering screen size and focus couldn't have been easier plus the noise level from the fan is neglegable.
Although there are a variety of settings to 'improve' the images if wished, from day one I have not yet found this necessary.
I am looking forward to connecting it to my computer for some serious large screen gaming!
Great Deal!!! who need plasma!! April 30, 2009 Giuseppe Grassi (UK) 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
Giuseppe Grassi says:
Great Projector!!! Brilliant colors even if in you are in bright room, superlative contrast and many ways to customize the images as you like by software simply push a button, very quite fan and good sound.
I didn`t believe that sharp image, on my ¡§entire¡¨ home wall, can come from a projector.
It comes with a good number of cables, and a nice bag so you can easily bring your projector everywhere.
The only slight bad point that the DVD slot in is on the back and not from the side (better solution) so you can`t place it too much near the wall, but this is if you want to be picky º
I can suggest this DVD100 to everyone who love Cinema (The real Cinema at home!!) it really worth the price, it`s a pity that optoma doesn`t give you a popcorn bag with the projector envelope!!!
Enjoy
Projector with added benefit of DVD player built in September 11, 2009 John Hincks (UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I wanted a projector to take to club meetings to give DVD presentations and this product performs perfectly. No need to lug along the laptop (with its tinny speakers) and connect up before showing the presentation on disc. Of course you can still do this and make powerpoint shows in the normal way. The picture is easy to focus with a short range zoom and kewstone controls as well. The picture is raised somewhat above where you would expect it to be, meaning the unit is not in the way of the audience's site lines. My only gripe is that the focal length of the lens means the distance to screen is only about 2 meters to give a really big picture - but one can live with this. A nice feature is the very short warm up and cool down times. The projector is aimed at the movie buff market and the unit can be fixed to the ceiling if desired. The sound output of the built in 2x5 watts stereo speakers is perfectly adequate for a decent size room full of people. Altogether does exactly what you could want.
Great September 15, 2009 russ_jones2k 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Excellent value for money, this projector has a near perfect image which has a good range in picture size. It works well on imperfect walls and in less-than-black conditions, too.
Only small drawbacks are there's no HD connection, I might have liked more tilt options (you have to move the machine around a bit to get the picture exactly how you want it angles-wise) and it seems to get pretty hot. These are generally minor things though and I'd definitely recommend buying this if you're looking for a non-HD projector at a great price
