Very good Portable DVD Player April 6, 2009 Chubby Cheeks (Burnley, Lancashire.) 41 out of 43 found this review helpful
Having had the Sony for almost a week I can thoroughly recommend it. It comes with a car headrest mount, in-car charger, home charger, remote control, battery, a/v cable and the instruction manual (paper, which is better than a cd). The picture quality is very good in Hi-Resolution which should not be confused with High Definition, but I feel that the built-in speaker is just about adequate. However, if you plug a pair of decent headphones into one of the two sockets then the sound is excellent. The build quality is good. There is no case but I bought a good slim-fitting Belkin one from PC World for £4.97 that neatly does the job. It has a line in/out so you can use your home Hi-Fi system for the sound or you can use it as a DVD player linked to the TV. You can also link a camcorder to it and watch through the Sony. Pricewise, Sony Centres' charge anything from £200-£250 (they're privately-owned franchises) while Amazon's was £180 (early April, 2009). I got mine from Argos Extra for £146. They are not in the catalogue yet or on their website either, but the catalogue no. is 085/1390 and they are in stock.
MY THIRD AND BEST PORTABLE DVD PLAYER March 11, 2009 Nick X (London Athens) 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
This is my third portable DVD player, and I hope to be third time lucky. (My first was Bush and lasted a year, the second Philips and lasted three years and now SONY DVP-FX875 )
General I am very happy with it.
Looks sexy smart and solid
Picture quality in a new DVD nearly good as blue ray.
Sound good,(there is still room for improvment). At full volume is a bit distorted, but great sound with headphones.
Six hours battery life is true, but only if set to the minimum backlight adjustment. What is the point if you can't hardly see anything even in a dark room?
Let's be realistic. The battery life set in a normal backlight adjustment and in a darkish room, is about three hours. (I watched two DVDS 90 min about each, one of the two with the headphones on)
No aspect ratio, no zoom. Only from 4:3 to full screen.
Little complicated the menu. No cary case, No headfhones. Two headphone jacks, clever battery pack that fits on the player's bottom, comes with mains and car adaptor.
Only region 2 (Why....)
Overview, I think it is a very good and clever gaget, with many features, some of them unessesary, leaving out one of the most usfull one....
A TIMER. Please SONY add a TIMER in your next model. Thank you
Great! March 28, 2009 Ryba Ryba (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have been using it for 3 weeks. Quality of picture and device itself are great. Works well in the car - my daughter was in heaven and our 12h journey from Italy was as quite as never before.
Sony 875B DVD Player - as hoped for April 13, 2010 gegard This player works as well as we hoped. It's a fine player. (We use more advanced earphones than those supplied, because we already had them, however.)
Fantastic for 14 months March 16, 2010 rosypie (UK) This was a fantastic dvd player. Great battery life, picture, sound. We watch dvds more than tv but don't have one upstairs so used this almost daily as well as on long journeys. Great for putting a few cartoons on in the morning for the kids. Unfortunately after 14 months we started losing the picture and had to close the lid and open it again to get it back. Once we stopped using the swivel feature it returned to normal and we got a further 4 months use out of it until i tried to use the swivel feature again and we have returned to losing the picture intermittently. Maybe we got a dud unit, maybe the swivel feature is a weakness, maybe we got as much mileage out of it as you could reasonable expect (we did use it more than our tv for months). My warranty had expired so it was too late to do anything about it.
Having said that, I would definitely buy a Sony again, but without the swivel, and I'd probably go for one with USB (a lot of my divx files simply wouldn't play). We have been pleased with every other aspect of its performance.
