Simply stunning! March 30, 2009 John W. Kramer (UK) 151 out of 152 found this review helpful
We got this camera to replace a small Nikon which did its duty over the last 3-4 years, primarily as a point-and-shot for family pics and videos. I have a good dSLR for more substantial work. This Lumix is just stunning! The quality of the pictures, colours, detail and the focus/exposure logic produces fantastic results. The movie quality is superb, played out to my PC or direct connect to large LCD TV, very watchable.
Among the features I really like:
- the user interface is a beauty, so simple and logical to navigate
- a fully automated mode that really works. Every test picture so far came out "right", night and day exposure
- the flash is very complementary, it never seems to to wash out subjects, just producing enough light or fill-in to get a good exposure
- manual setting modes that allow a decent range of adjustments for such a small camera; it ain't an SLR but for trickier conditions it gives enough control. Higher ISO modes don't seem too noisy so far
- the movie quality is superb, and the screen on the back is large enough and of high enough quality to really watch them playback without the rush to transfer to another display
- focussing seems pretty quick and precise
- the 10Mpix is enough to allow on camera cropping, producing high res images still which are very useable for the case I tried. Onboard cropping logic was really straight-forward
- The size of thing; it's tiny and so light, and a wonderful design
- Battery life seems good, I charged it up then took 100+ pics (with lots of flash) and some movies later the charge level only just stepped down from 3/3 bars to 2/3 bars.
- Use of SDHC is nice, fitted with a 8Gb card it indicates I can get almost 1600 pics in the highest-res mode! The standard goes up to 32Gb apparently.
Nice job Panasonic!
Love it!! June 29, 2009 Shazzy Babé (Glasgow) 62 out of 62 found this review helpful
I bought this camera as a replacement for my Kodak, and I just love it.
For once I did some research on the internet about the best to buy in my price bracket, and the Lumix make always seemed to come just out in front of the Sony Cybershot which I was first interested in.
I am no professional, just a point and shot type of person, and I very rarely read the instruction booklet, I just go for it, but found this very easy to work round.
It had it's first outing at an outdoor concert, where is was day going into night, and the phots it took where jsut amazin, and had all my friends commenting on how good the quality was. The night scene, and the sports mode really helped capture some great pictures. And the fireworks feature caputured the closing scene beautifully.
I'm no expert, but I think this camera is great value for money, it's small but robust and can easy fit into your pocket, and I would recommend it to anybody who just likes to 'point & shoot' and get good shots. (Tho the shutter speed is still not as fast as I would like, it's a major improvement from the Kodak)
Buy it, play with it, LOVE IT!!!
Great little camera but some issues July 18, 2009 J. P. Moore (Colchester, Essex UK) 48 out of 48 found this review helpful
I purchased this camera for a trip to Germany. i wanted something small enough to fit into a pocket but with high quality pics. This camera seemed to fit the bill. I did some research on other cameras - (Nikon, Fuji, etc) but this one did seem to be attracting some good comments.
In use the camera is very user friendly and very intuitive so the manual is very rarely needed. While in Germany I took around 100 pics and I was stunned by the results. The pictures are clear, highly defined, and evenly exposed. I was only in Germany for 3 days on business so had to grab spare moments of sightseeing. This camera sat very comfortably in my pocket ready for action.
The reason for only 4 stars is the viewfinder (or lack of one). This camera only has a screen to frame the picture (no viewfinder) and i struggled slightly to see the image in bright sunlight so had to guess if I was pointing it in the right direction. But when it was pointing in the right direction, the results were more than worth the struggle! Also mine was supposed to come with a free case but this never materialised.
If you can put up with the dim-in-sunlight screen then buy it. You won't be disappointed with the resultant pictures.
UPDATE: Afetr informing Amazon of the failure of the free camera case to arrive they took care of it and, low and behold, I have my free case. Well done Amazon!
Nice little camera July 12, 2009 Mrs. J. A. Parker (Cheshire) 30 out of 30 found this review helpful
I am very pleased and impressed with this camera. I did a lot of research as I wanted a compact camera that would fit in my pocket or bag but with a good spec. The close up shots are excellent and the colours really vibrant. Obviously as it has only got a 4 x optical zoom distant shots are hampered but the sharpness and quality of shots taken at full zoom are excellent. It is also easy and straightforward to use. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good little compact camera.

I bought this camera to update my existing one which was very old and slow. I have used it a few times now and the pictures are excellent. I am very much a point and shoot person and this does all the necessary bits for you. The display is very clear even pretty good in bright sunlight. Photos are a doddle to download and the quality is super. Watch the price as for some stupid reason some retailers seem to add up to £30 just because it's black - but you can get it for roughly the same price as the silver one - I did via Amazon! Would recommend this product for anyone who wants a light, compact camera that has an idiot setting which takes super pictures for you. As for the fancier settings I will have to leave that to someone else to tell you about.
