4 out of 5 stars A decent laptop for a low price   July 15, 2009

For the money, this laptop offers amazing value. I installed a version of Vista Home Premium on mine and it is very speedy, and runs the Aero Glass interface just fine.

The graphics card is a ATI HD3200 which isn't listed on the specification sheet, but it is one of the best integrated graphics available, and will display HD video, and has a HDMI port so you can connect to your HD television.

Someone else wrote about the lousy keyboard - it's actually very good and although the spacing is quite wide, the keys have a good feel.
The touchpad is quite large, but this is not a bad thing, and the touchpad buttons have a good feel as well.

The only bad thing about this laptop is the relatively noisy fan. It is on constantly, and is quite noisy when doing intensive tasks, such as viewing video or installing programmes. However, it does keep the laptop cool so I can't complain too much.

The volume from the speakers is very loud if you uncheck the box that says "limited output" in the device settings, and the speakers are quite good for laptop speakers, as they include Dolby enhancements.

The screen is nice and bright, evenly lit and has good colour reproduction. As it is 16:9 aspect ratio, it is able to display TV programmes and some films without any black bars - perfect for iPlayer.

For the money, I don't think you can complain. It is not the most powerful of laptops, and the battery life is only around 2 hours, but I don't think you'll find a better made laptop with all the features this one has for the money - just remember to remove all the Acer software that comes with it to keep it running smoothly!

4 out of 5 stars Excellent laptop   June 13, 2009

I received this laptop about a week ago and I have got to say that I absolutely love it. It is really fast and is very much for people who want to run different programs at the same time. It does not take ages like my previous Dell laptop. Excellent value for the low price I paid. Only one thing I would have wanted is a webcam. This model does not have a webcam despite it being in the picture. That is the only reason I have not given it a 5 stars. I would definately advise you to buy this if you are looking for an upgrade.

if you in the market for a new laptop buy this one, the build quality is excellent, its fast has great sound and a very sharp screen, if i had a complaint it would be Acer has put too much pre loaded software on it but to be fair this can be removed easy.
Delivery from Amazon was 1st class came next day after ordering.

5 out of 5 stars Fab laptop for the price   July 28, 2009

I love this laptop! I have had numerous Acers in the past and swear by them. This laptop is stylish and fast. Love the blue lid, the lovely sharp screen, the touchpad etc, etc. Have had no problems with it running hot (a comment on another site) the battery lasts over 2.5 hours as long as you set the power saving correctly, the keypad is fine (a little difficult to clean between keys perhaps). No drawbacks at all so far. Very happy with it. Sadly sometimes laptops are DOA (I am an IT technician in a repair shop)so don't let the negative comments about this laptop put you off. It is great for the money (and I spent a lot of time researching this as of 28/7/09).

4 out of 5 stars Good value spec - low build quality   August 2, 2009

I've had this Acer for about two weeks now. First, the negative points: the build quality isn't up to much, I think its very plasticy and flimsy. The CD tray feels very loose when it is open and I don't think the laptop would survive even the smallest drop or impact from having something heavy place on top of it. I didn't like the finger pad, but solved that with a £5 usb mouse. The positives: it requires no effort at all to get it working out of the box. Plug in the power, switch it on and off you go. All the software is pre-installed, no disks, although there's a lot of programs that you find yourself removing later. It connected to my home wireless network with out any problems so far - I've read a few horror stories online about automatic updates causing havoc with IE, but I haven't suffered any of these yet. The screen is very good - you can quite happily watch DVDs on it, I've seen worse LCD TV's! I liked the keyboard - it has a great finger feel and is almost like a full size desk top keyboard. Performance wise, so far its been very reliable. I mainly use it for the internet, running Audacity and multi-media applications, all of which it handles well. I can happily run two programs at a time. It uses about 2.8gb of the 3gb of RAM which is fairly decent, and compared to my ancient Dell is very speedy. It has a HDMI out (for HD video) which is very useful as this is becoming something of a standard connection now, and means you can connect it to most new plasma and LCD screens. Also it has a line in audio connection as well as the microphone. This means that, if like me, you want to record into your laptop (I'm archiving all my vinyl records using Audacity) you get a properly balanced true stereo recording with out having to buy an expensive audio card. Also the sound quality coming out isn't bad. I wouldn't want to take it on holiday, or even to a cafe because I'd be worried about it smashing, but I'd recommend this to someone who wants a laptop rather than a desktop PC, so you can go from room to room with it, but not leave the house. For the money its a good buy.
