5 out of 5 stars Panasonic V10   July 29, 2009

I have always been a fan of Panasonic screens even though sometimes other attributes are not quite so good. For me, the overiding factor is the quality of the image reproduction. This V10 is fantastic. I have freesat connected and the image on all stations is the best I have seen anywhere.
I spent ages looking at reviews on the net, visiting shops before settling on a 42" V10. The one piece of glass makes it look good even when it is switched off. The Viera cast is, I think, a bit of a waste of effort at the moment as most folk will connect a PC to browse the Internet. If there is a lan port, then I wish they would just include a browser like Firefox with the TV. Plug in a remote keyboard+mouse via usb, and job would be done!
My only moan so far is the lack of a USB port, but I'd forgive anything for that fantastic picture.
And the value for money is good if you shop wisely, I saved £450 over my local high street price. I would love to support my local high street, but not at that cost!
Last thing is the eco mode. The new plasma design runs with less power than other screens, the top of the unit doesn't get too warm so it isn't so power hungry. It can also automatically dim itself to match the ambient room light level.
Overall, V. satisfied. And I swear I don't work for Panasonic!

5 out of 5 stars superb quality   September 7, 2009

This is our first foray into true HD TV and after much internet searching of reviews and visits to the local eletrical superstores we settled on the Panasonic TX-P42V10B.
What a superb piece of equipment this television is. The picture quality is absolutely first class and connected to some Logitech speakers gives a full cinema experience.
It is relatively straightforward to set up, in fact it does the vast majority of its own setting up, you just have to work out where to plug in the necessary cables be they HDMI, aerial, optical or SCART. Once set up it is a joy to use. The remote is easy enough and controls the Video/BluRay as well (provided it is Panasonic too).

Downside: well thus far nothing has come to light, sound and picture quality and ease of use are all excellent.
We are very pleased with our purchase and would have no hesitation in recommending same to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Top Picture for HD / SD / and upscaled content   August 29, 2009

I have BT Vision piped through at 1080i upscaling and I can't fault the picture.
I actually bought the item from an official Panasonic dealer at a premium price but got a BD60 Blu Ray thrown in plus a 5 year warranty and interest free for 12 months.

The set is fantastic. The blacks are deep as you'd expect on a Plasma panel and the motion handling on Match of the Day is first class. I have yet to hook up a satellite dish but plan to do so.

The colours after 6 hours are just natural ! Any doubts you have over buying this set, set to one and side and splash the cash.. You will not regret it this is a 5 star set.

I almost purchased the Sony Z5500 which is a fantastic looking set but the colours are just not a natural... its a wow factor of LCD in the shop... but would you want to live with it... This V10 panel has a dynamic picture mode for LCD fans... it over brightens the picture and saturates the colours.... IMHO

The THX and styling of this set makes it worth the premium... I also had a BluRay thrown in so I was always going to pay the premium for the free player...

4 out of 5 stars Superb product!   October 28, 2009

Easy to set up, enter your postcode upon first starting up and it'll automatically find all the channels and number it accordingly. I made sure the satellite cable and aerial were plugged in before starting up.

Compared the V10 against Samsung's latest LED and Sony's LCD, it wins hands down in terms of colour rendition and black levels. THX mode makes watching movies a pleasure. Caught Star Wars ep1 on ITV HD via freesat last Saturday and I was glued to it. Perfect colour rendition and 24p brings the cinema experience home.

For sports I switch to Cinema mode to get the judder free 600hz experience. Again watching the England match in BBC HD was bliss! Movies however, appear too smooth in 'Cinema mode' in my opinion hence I easily switch to THX mode.

DLNA works well with my Macbook Pro. There's a serial number for TwonkyMedia Server program included in the box to allow DivX files to be accessed from the TV via the LAN port. How I wished the TV would also play DivX+ files (ie. High Definition MKV).

Viera Cast is set up to show my local weather. Youtube can also be viewed but only in standard definition. Would also be great if Panasonic could find a way in placing BBC iPlayer into it. Hoping a firmware update could be done for this.

Sound is OK, not amazing but adequate, planning to get one of Panasonic's home theater system for this.

The one glass design is beautiful and modern.. definitely better than the G10/G15. Included also is a microfibre cloth to keep it shiny, smudge free!

OVERALL
Pros: Best picture quality, superb design, Freesat, DLNA, DivX

Cons: No DivX+/HD support, youtube only SD format

4 out of 5 stars Quality at a price   July 4, 2009

I've has this tv for about 10 days & I am relieved that it proof that you get what you paid for (although I'm certain prices will fall when other manufacturers catch up with the Freesat technology).

I haven't had to fiddle with the colour, not the aspect ratio (I've got it on auto select) as all appears natural.

The only thing that would be helpful to those who rely upon subtitles, is the EPG could be similarly configured to that of Sky's format & highlighting programmes that have subtitles.
